  About Diamonds

Worlwide experts assess diamonds according to the interplay of the 4Cs: cut, carat, color and clarity. But how can you work with the 4Cs and which one is most important? First of all, you should know that no one C is more relevant than the others. In fact, you can select a combination within the 4Cs which suits your individual jewelry piece, the occasion, your budget or your desired style.

As with the figure or the eye color of a loved one, the true attraction of a diamond is beyond any attempted explanation. A chosen piece of bellaluce jewelry, whether for yourself or as a gift  is always something special.

Cut

It is the perfect cut which gives a diamond it’s unmistakable brilliance and is therefore the only criterion which one can directly influence.  For only the masterful cut with optimal proportions and the arrangement of 57 facets ignites the proverbial fire of a diamond. In the interior of a well cut diamond with good proportions light is reflected from one facet to another and radiates back through the top of the stone. bellaluce uses brilliant cut diamonds with 57 facets for it’s collection ensuring maximum brilliance.

Colour

Evaluating the color of a diamond when grading means measuring how close it is to being colorless: the whiter the diamond is, the rarer it is. Diamonds are found in almost all colors of the rainbow. The color scale begins with the highest rating of „D“  for colorless (extremely white) and travels through the alphabet to „Z“ for tinted or slightly yellow.

Stones graded „M“ or less have a visible yellow tint. The diamonds being set in bellaluce jewelry are exclusively natural white diamonds (color „H“).

Clarity

The clarity of a diamond can be identified according to whether it has inclusions or not and how many. These inherent features give the diamond so to say it’s own signature,  similar to a fingerprint. In most cases, these inclusions are not visible to the naked eye and can only be seen under strong magnification. A diamond is considered to be flawless if the inclusions cannot even be detected under 10x magnification. The more flawless a diamond is, the rarer it is.

bellaluce diamonds are quality „SI“ which stands for „small inclusions“. These inclusions are however, not visible to the naked eye and have absolutely no influence on the brilliance.

Carat

The weight and therefore the size of a diamond is measured in carats. One carat (ct.) is 0.2 grams. A diamond of 5 carats weighs just about one gram. The carat is a natural measuring unit going back to the carob seeds which were used to balance scales. Originally diamonds were weighed against these seeds.
